PORSCHE 911 GT3 CUP RS 997
The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup RS 997 is arguably the most versatile racing vehicle in modern professional sportscar competition. With iterations of the vehicle being eligible in the American Le Mans Series, GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, and more, STR has proudly competed in several series featuring the vehicle.
The car is a racing version of the Porsche 911 GT3 road car. Being eligible in multiple series, Silicon Tech Racing has participated in some of the most signficant races in the sportscar under the Porsche moniker, including the 24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring, Petit Le Mans, and even as supporting event to the FIA Formula One World Championship while competing in Asia. Weighing 2650lbs, the cars are made to fit a rigorous specification by both series, with the only adjustments allowed being ones that effect the car's handling and gearing.
The 3.8 litre, naturally aspirated V6 engine delivers 480 HP and is coupled to a 6 speed sequential gearbox. 0 to 60 mph is obtained in less than 3 seconds and top speed exceeds 200 mph.
The data acquisition system provides precise measures of the dynamic characteristics of the car such as individual wheel speed, yaw, lateral, vertical and longitudinal gforces, shock movements, GPS position as well as many engine parameters. Real time transmission is not permitted, thus a lot of work goes into data analysis to fine tune the car in the paddock, particular in analyzing one driver's technique next to another.
The car is equipped with a radio communication system enabling two way driver / pit communications, which by series regulation must be transmitted on an open channel for the public.
Hi definition video recording provides exciting footage of the races from the driver's point of view as well as from the rear bumper. Videos are available on the download page of this site.
